The red-hot jazz ensemble 32 Bars is touching down at The JazzLab in Brunswick Bennetts Lane for an unmissable Saturday night show on October 31st.
32 Bars is making waves with their ambitious project to film 32 brand-new jazz vocal showtunes across Victoria's most iconic music venues—each song composed and arranged for full jazz ensemble by guitarist Mark Morand.
Nik Fotakis from Australian Jazz says "Mark Morand is building a songbook that caters to the body and soul: uplifting, comforting, and toe-tapping tunes that can melt the coldest, most cynical hearts." Kate Cerabrano calls it "ballsy, rambunctious, full of heart, body and soul”.
“I knew I had songs inside me. To bring them to life, I needed to write in the style of the great 20th-century composers,” Mark shared with Jimmy Hornet Magazine.
And the achievements speak for themselves: with over 1 million YouTube views across the portfolio, 32 Bars boasts seven Top 10 rankings on AMRAP, a top 100 spot in the Vanda & Young Global Song Competition, a semi-finalist spot in the International Songwriting Competition, and two 'Song of the Day' features on All About Jazz.
The band has been heating up venues right across the state, having already blazed through 25 completed recordings and Song 26, “I’ve Got Your Rhythm”, dropping on Monday, October 26th. With over 40 musicians featured across the project, 32 Bars is creating a unique musical story celebrating the richness and depth of Victorian jazz.

On Saturday 31 October, 32 Bars takes over The JazzLab to present two full sets of the very best songs from the series, including the live filming and recording of Song 27, “Get Yourself a Vice”, featuring the inimitable Vincent Bradley on vocals.
Featuring four stellar vocalists, a blistering 3-piece horn section, and a swingin' rhythm section with Annette Yates on bass celebrating her 40th year as a performer, 32 Bars proves that jazz is fun, alive and kicking in Melbourne.

For the very first time, Jennifer Salisbury, Yvette Hearn, and Susy Hull will share the stage—each bringing their own unique vocal style and interpretation to this brand-new production: The Great Composers.
At the heart of the show is Mark Morand, whose signature arrangements bring a fresh and vibrant twist to these timeless classics. As guitarist and musical director, Mark’s skillful touch and deep understanding of the era’s style help shape every note and every moment on stage.
With a touch of storytelling magic, each vocalist will take their turn in the spotlight—breathing new life into the timeless works of these musical legends.
