Jennifer Salisbury Sings Audioslave
For me, jazz is about connection — that gut-punch of feeling when music cuts straight through you. And when I hear Chris Cornell sing, it’s the same. His voice has that raw, aching intensity that hits you right in the chest.
It’s a thrill to bring these powerful songs to life at the Paris Cat Jazz Club, Friday June 20th at 9pm.
Expect an electrifying set of Audioslave anthems — Light My Way, Like a Stone, and many more — delivered with all the fire and fury they deserve. It’s a tribute to the raw power of the originals, with just a touch of jazz woven through the cracks.
Jennifer Salisbury and Mark Morand are one of Australia’s hardest-working jazz partnerships, currently touring eight different shows across Victoria. Paris Cat audiences will know them from Anything Goes: The Songs of Cole Porter, 32 Bars, and Our Favourite Things.
Now, they’re stepping into new territory. With Jennifer’s powerhouse vocals and Mark’s inventive arrangements, they take on Audioslave’s explosive catalogue, backed by two of Melbourne’s finest: Niko Schauble on drums and Annette Yates on double bass. Together, this formidable quartet stays true to the grit and soul of Audioslave, while adding a few unexpected twists along the way.
Set against the red velvet backdrop of Paris Cat, with candlelight and close-up energy, this promises to be a night of raw connection and musical fire.

We Prefer to Swing! Back with a bigger dance floor!
Yes! The third edition of "We Prefer to Swing" is set to be another brilliant afternoon of swing dancing and general revelry.
Good news - there are a limited number of regular early bird tix, on sale right now
We heard your feedback and we've removed the tables to maximise the floor space for dancers, refreshed the band line-up - and, in fabulous news, we’re holding a very exciting dance competition...here’s what to expect.
Jennifer Salisbury's Swingin' Elixir
Well-known and well-loved on the Melbourne swing circuit for over a decade, we re-booted The Swingin' Elixir in 2023 with long-time vocalist Jennifer Salisbury at the helm of a brand-new line-up . The Swingin' Elixir will have you on the dance floor from very first “1,2, you know what to do”!
The Shuffle Club
Their style is most easily described as a hot blend of jazz, swing, blues and boogie. But that hardly does justice to The Shuffle Club's raw energy and enthusiasm – the kind that will bring you to your feet and on to the dance floor before you even quite know what is happening!
32 Bars
This fabulous production brings brand new swingin' tunes to life from Melbourne composer and producer Mark Morand. With three sensational vocalists and a red hot 7-piece band, the dancing is irresistible – and we promise you’ll be humming these brilliant melodies when you wake up on Sunday morning.
DJ Rusty
Popular swing DJ Rusty will keep the beats pumping between sets.
Dance-off!
We’re holding a dance competition for couples who’d like to invent a set of moves for the brand-new single from 32 Bars, “Bliss”. Here’s what to do for your chance to win the $200 Couple’s First Prize:
- subscribe to markmorand.com to receive news about the competition, and all of our events
- watch and listen to “Bliss” on the 32 Bars Youtube Channel, on or after Monday 10 March
- invent an inspiring set of moves that others could copy
- showcase your sequence with other competitors during our set
- Judges will be Jennifer Salisbury, DJ Rusty, and a representative from the Brunswick Ballroom.
There is a $200 cash prize for the winning couple, plus a 32 Bars merch pack each. The winners will be invited to be spotlighted dancers to feature in a future 32 Bars video!
There will be consolation prizes for second and third place, and a merch pack for everyone who has a go. Solo dancers are most welcome to participate, of course! But we’d like the winning moves to feature interaction between two dancers, as the song is quite romantic.
Full terms and conditions are at markmorand.com. It’s quite brief - but please read them so you know what we are looking for!
And finally…
People under 18 in the company of adults are welcome to attend We Prefer to Swing! Please note that tickets are required for anyone over the age of six. KID FRIENDLY

The Swingin' Elixirs at Clayton RSL
Whatever ails you, a dose of The Swingin' Elixir is guaranteed to get you on your feet. Playing swing tunes predominantly of the 30's and 40's, the Swingin' Elixir kicks out the dancing tunes with Lindy Hop in mind.
You'll hear songs that were performed by the likes of Fats Waller, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Prima just to name a few. The 4 piece rhythm section, and 2 piece horn section, together with the silky smooth vocals of Jen Salisbury, comprise this 'little big-band'.
We're bringing our swing show back to the wonderful Victorian Jazz Club for a night of dancing and fantastic vintage jazz - come join us!
Or tickets available at door $25
Jennifer Salisbury sings Audioslave
Featuring musical powerhouses Jackie Hempshall on drums and Annette Yates on double bass, this quartet, while staying true to the essence of Ausioslave will be weaving in some unexpected elements. It is a jazz club after all!
For me - jazz is about connection, and when I hear Chris Cornell sing, I feel that emotional connection. It is the same feeling I get when I listen to the greatest jazz vocalists of our time.
It's a joy to share these songs with you on Saturday November 2nd at 9pm at Paris Cat Jazz Club.
Jennifer Salisbury and Mark Morand are one of the busiest jazz partnerships in Australia, currently performing eight different shows all across Victoria. They are well-known to recent Paris Cat audiences for their shows “Anything Goes - the Songs of Cole Porter”; “32 Bars”; and “Our Favourite Things”.
This is their most innovative project yet - to bring Jennifer’s unique jazz sensibilities and Mark’s delightful arranging skills to the songs of the great 21st Century rock act Audioslave, backed by some of Melbourne’s finest musicians.
A show can only ever debut once - here’s your chance to say “I was there!”
Paris Cat Jazz Club brings the romantic, red curtain, dark candlelit vibes you would expect from the perfect jazz club experience.
